Children in the Sunday School program at First English Lutheran Church in Platteville spent Sept. 13 preparing school kits, quilts, and health kits as part of Rally Sunday activities.
“We want the children to know that they can play an important part in the church’s ministry,” said Sunday School coordinator Nancy Hammermeister.
Younger children opened packages of erasers and counted pencils and pens into bundles of 5. Older children packed the supplies, assembly-line fashion, into backpacks. Another group tied bundles of soap, toothbrushes, combs, and towels. The quilting group got help from others who put their fingers to work tying and finishing quilts. The completed kits are sent around the world as part of Lutheran World Relief programs.
The children and adults at First English completed 125 school kits, 118 health kits, and 95 quilts. The church also has more than 100 baby care kits packed.
First English offers Sunday School classes for children from 3 years old through eighth grade, starting each year in September and running through mid-May. For more information, contact the church office, 348-3022.
