Council adjourns in record time
Election paperwork due soon
Boscobel

If you’d blinked, you would have missed it.

Boscobel’s City Council had a near gavel-in gavel-out meeting on Monday, November 20. The entire thing took just seven minutes—shattering the previous record (during this reporter’s short tenure at least) of 16 minutes.

Elections coming up

The council heard from City Administrator Patricia Smith that paperwork for the next election cycle will begin circulating this week.

Alders up for re-election include Stephanie Brown (Ward 2) and Roger Brown (Ward 4). Jessie Esser, who was appointed by Mayor Brenda Kalish to serve in Krissy Schneider’s Ward 3 seat, will need to run for office to retain her seat. Former Board President Barb Bell (Ward 1) announced her retirement earlier this year, leaving a vacant seat. Mayor Kalish is also up for re-election.

As of press time, TK people had filed for the council seats.

Permit approved

In its only business, the council approved what promises to be a festive holiday event in the city: The Chamber of Commerce’s “Tinsel and Treats on Boscobel’s Streets” on Saturday December 2, which features various offerings, including Santa greets and a parade, in downtown Boscobel.

Budget hearing 12/11

Late-November’s rapid-fire meeting will be the last before the public hearing for the city’s 2024 final budget, which, in turn, will be the last meeting of the year.

The public is encouraged to weigh in on the budget at the public hearing. A budget overview was printed in last week’s Dial, and a detailed breakdown is available at City Hall.
