Blizzard doesn't stop alcohol violations

PLATTEVILLE — A 23-year-old Fennimore man was ticketed for drunk driving early Thursday morning.

Bryant J. Digman was stopped by police for driving the wrong way on Second Street around 1 a.m. Digman failed field sobriety tests, which were conducted at the Platteville police station because of the weather, according to police.

•    Derek P. Schmieder, 20, Platteville, was ticketed for underage drinking during the blizzard early Friday morning.

Schmieder called police to request excused parking for his vehicle, which was in a snowbank on Business 151 at Commercial Drive, around 2:35 a.m. After police called a tow-truck operator to remove the car from the snowbank, the officer picked up Schmieder to take him to his vehicle, and noticed an odor of intoxicants, according to police.

•    Kirsten M. Deruijt, 20, Platteville, was cited for underage drinking and for being underage in a licensed premise early Friday morning. Deruijt was cited at Brothers on Second, 90 N. Second St., around 12:55 a.m.

•    Stephen M. Wolfe, 22, 195 Washington St., Platteville, was cited for open intoxicants Thursday night, for standing outside 170 W. Main St. with an open 16-ounce can of Keystone Light beer.

Officer Nathan Coleman

Chief Billy J. Jones would like to introduce Officer Nathan Coleman.  Nathan Coleman is the son of Tom and Brenda Coleman, of Richland Center.  Nathan graduated from the Richland Center High School in 2018. Throughout high school, Nathan was involved in many different sports and now he spends most of his free time hunting or fishing. Nathan hopes to get involved with youth sports as a coach whether that be in wrestling, basketball, or football. 

Nathan recently graduated from the 720-hour Law Enforcement Academy at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and is excited to be able to give back to his hometown by working for the Richland Center Police Department. 

Nathan is currently in phase two of the Police Department’s 14-week field training program and can’t wait to be out on his own serving the community. Please help welcome Officer Coleman to the Police Department and to the City of Richland Center by waving or saying hi if you see him out and about.
