An Elroy woman has been charged with two counts of second degree sexual assault by a correctional facility staff.
April Stokes, 36, is also charged with three counts of delivering illegal articles to an inmate.
Stokes was working at the New Lisbon Correctional Institution (NLCI) as a nurse.
According to the criminal complaint, the New Lisbon Police Department received a call from NLCI about a report of an employee having sexual relations with prisoners and bringing them contraband.
When interviewed by investigators, Stokes said she had been in a relationship with two of the prisoners, but said she never did anything physically beyond hugs and kisses. She admitted to sending letters using a fake name and bringing in cell phones and tobacco to the prison.
Stokes’ initial appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 6 in Juneau County Court.
