Vernon County authorities seek information on mailbox vandalism

Vernon County Crime Stoppers and the Vernon County Sheriff's Office are seeking information from the public regarding vandalized mailboxes in rural areas of Stoddard, Genoa and De Soto.

According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, mailboxes were smashed during the evening hours of Feb. 25 or the early morning hours of Feb. 26 along the following roads: State Hwy. 162; Hickory Ridge, Wing Hollow, Worman, Malin, and South Bad Axe Roads; and Ghelf  and Eckert Lanes.

Most of the damage was done on Hickory Ridge Rd., east of Genoa.

Authorities believe the perpetrator or perpetrators could have used a baseball bat to damage the mailboxes.

In addition, tires on a vehicle on Elm Drive in Stoddard were slashed.

Officer Nathan Coleman

Chief Billy J. Jones would like to introduce Officer Nathan Coleman.  Nathan Coleman is the son of Tom and Brenda Coleman, of Richland Center.  Nathan graduated from the Richland Center High School in 2018. Throughout high school, Nathan was involved in many different sports and now he spends most of his free time hunting or fishing. Nathan hopes to get involved with youth sports as a coach whether that be in wrestling, basketball, or football. 

Nathan recently graduated from the 720-hour Law Enforcement Academy at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and is excited to be able to give back to his hometown by working for the Richland Center Police Department. 

Nathan is currently in phase two of the Police Department’s 14-week field training program and can’t wait to be out on his own serving the community. Please help welcome Officer Coleman to the Police Department and to the City of Richland Center by waving or saying hi if you see him out and about.
