Emily and Wayon - Finnegan is Feeling Blue
EMILY SCHENDEL, intrepid Independent-Scout columnist and hard-working mom reads a book written by another beloved columnist, Jane Schmidt, to her son Waylon. The book is ‘Finnegan is Feeling Blue,” and was written by Jane after the tragic death of her granddaughter last summer.

Jane’s new book

The book is about Finn grieving the loss of his buddy, Michael Karasek.

Grandma Riley (aka, Jane) helps Finn name his emotions and understand that it's normal to feel blue when someone we love dies, when we get injured or sick, when a best friend moves, when parents get divorced, or when our favorite dog dies.

The book was written after Jane's granddaughter, Helena, was killed in a tragic car accident this past June.

Schmidt said, "grieving is hard and complicated as an adult. I couldn't imagine children trying to navigate it on their own. I sincerely hope the book along with a loving adult reading it can help."
