As part of Wisconsin’s annual Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week, a statewide tornado drill will be conducted Thursday afternoon.
A statewide mock tornado watch will be issued at 1 p.m., followed by a statewide mock tornado warning at 1:45 p.m.
Municipal tornado sirens will be sounded, NOAA Weather Radio will broadcast the warnings, and many radio and TV stations will also participate.
Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes annually. In 2014, 22 tornadoes were reported in Wisconsin by the National Weather Service. Eighteen of those tornadoes occurred in June, including Platteville’s two tornadoes June 16.
