Fennimore Elementary School took part in a kindness week celebration during the week of Jan.. 22-25. This one week bullying prevention program, known as “The Great Kindness Challenge,” provides an opportunity for every student to actively create a culture of kindness and compassion in the school and community. Using a kindness checklist, students were challenged to complete as many acts of kindness as possible.
Due to inclement weather, this year’s Kindness Week was only three days. The total acts of kindness completed this year by the elementary students during this three-day week was 3,103.
The student council arranged several events to make this week special. Classrooms had a door decorating contest. Students participated in a “Dreaming of Kindness” pajama day. We celebrated kindness in the cafeteria with “compli-mints” handed out after our meal. The steps on our staircases were decorated with words of encouragement. A large kindness banner was displayed in the hallway, and student council members shared their favorite famous kindness quotes on School Zone.
The Fennimore Elementary Student Council began promoting this event during the 2015-16 school year, and has been hosting it ever since. Over the last nine years, students have completed a total of 20,152 acts of kindness solely from this week long challenge.
