Rainbow Was Welcome
Random Thoughts by Wendell Smith

This part of Wisconsin has been listed as being in a “Severe Drought” during August and early September. The shower that came Tuesday of last week didn’t make up for the lack of summer rain, but it did seemingly give us, and our lawns, a shot of adrenaline.

That shower was accompanied by a colorful but short-lived rainbow. Seeing a rainbow like that seems to promote good feelings and often the thought: “I wish I could get a picture of that.” At least one Muscoda resident was successful getting that shot. Pat Ostrander posted a nice picture on the Internet which showed the colors of the arch and ends that were anchored in the local hills.

A rainbow arch contains seven colors. They are violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Casual viewing of a rainbow may not reveal all of the colors as they may blend together

Scientists also report there also can also be a “lunar rainbow” which is formed by the light of the moon. However, the faint colors make it difficult to see.

Closer to home, you may also see rainbow colors displayed in the spray from your garden hose – especially if you hum Judy Garland’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow Skies Are Blue” as you water your sunflower patch
