The SMRT bus red route running from Prairie du Chien to Viroqua will be cancelled end by the end of the month.

The route made stops in Readstown, Soldiers Grove, Gays Mills, Mt. Sterling, Seneca, and Eastman.

“It never developed any ridership,” explained manager Jeff Burckhardt. “Many people called excited about it when we began, but the riders never materialized.”

Several time changes were attempted, according to Burckhardt, but they did not prove successful, nor did the organization receive feedback for improving the route.

The service will add a second route on their Prairie du Chien to LaCrosse route and will maintain the Viroqua-LaCrosse route, as well.
