David H. Hackett (Dave) died on February 8, 2023, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisc. He is survived by Ellen Brooks, his life partner of 52 years and spouse of four years; his sister Robyn (Steve) Dentinger; niece Taryn (Camas) Lindbeck and great nephew Bridger; nephew Bryn (Rachel) Dentinger, great nephew Oban and great niece Iona; brother Scott Waters and nephew Randall Waters; and by extended family and many friends. 

Dave suffered a stroke on January 16, 2023, and although he worked hard in rehab, doing physical, occupational, and speech therapy, a second stroke while he was still in the hospital ended his life. He was buried on their land on February 11 following the principles of green burial, as was his wish. The Threshold Care Circle of Viroqua, Wisc. assisted the family with guidance and hands-on help.
