Doris M. Keen, age 87 of Mineral Point, formerly of Darlington, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Mineral Point. She was born May 26, 1929 in Freeport, Ill. the daughter of Harry and Louise (Datt) Laymann. Doris graduated from Freeport High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Kenneth J. Keen on June 11, 1959 in Juda. Doris lived in Freeport until her marriage to Ken when they moved to rural Juda to farm. In 1976 they moved to Darlington. Doris worked as the dietary manager for Lafayette Manor Nursing Home in Darlington until her retirement in 1997.
Doris is survived by one son: Thomas J. Keen of rural Argyle; three daughters: Sandy Kay (Lonnie) Hatcher of Evans, Ga., Debra Sue (Roger) Timmerman of Dickeyville, and Donna Louise (Brian) Bredeson of Darlington; five grandchildren: Kristina (Matt Woodward) Kieffer, Michelle (Justin) Monson, Ryan (Jordan) Mosley, Alissa (Joe) Burbach, and Grant (Makayla McVay) Garvey; three step-grandchildren: Cody Bredeson, Troy (Shannon) Timmerman, and Rob (Rhonda) Timmerman; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces: Diana Barone of Phoenix, Ariz. and Carolyn Reid of Scottsdale, Ariz. and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ken on October 29, 1988; and five sisters: Margaret, Marian, and Bernice Laymann , Alice Bischof, and Evelyn Price.
Doris was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington and its Women of the ELCA. She loved to challenge her mind by doing puzzles of all sorts. Doris cherished the time she spent with her family and the memories they created that will forever stay in their hearts. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church (1302 Clay Street, Darlington) with Rev. Craig Simenson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Juda. A visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
