Russell E. Wilson, age 89 of Darlington passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born Sept. 16, 1926 in Darlington the son of Earl and Stella (Jacobson) Wilson. Russ was united in marriage to Donna D. McDonald on Dec. 28, 1951 at Grandview United Methodist Church in Dubuque, Iowa. He grew up in Lamont Township where he farmed from 1951 to 1966 when he moved into Darlington. He worked as a salesman for Howery Machine in Darlington until 1980 when he took his talents to Truck Country in Shullsburg where he remained until his retirement in 1994.
Russ is survived by his children: Carla (Terri) Potter of Bonita Springs, Fla., Robert Wilson and Scott Wilson both of Darlington; two grandchildren: Emily (Jeremy) Gratz and Matthew (Catherine) Potter; one great-grandson: Mack Gratz; special friend: Jeannie Gille of Darlington; one brother: Paul Wilson of Darlington; and two sisters: Joyce (Jim) Huber and Annette (Deon) Haney both of Sarasota, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Donna; one brother: Robert Wilson; and one daughter-in-law: Wendy Wilson.
Russ’ true loves were his family and music. He started the Rhythm Ramblers and later formed the Russ Wilson Band and continued performing and sharing his love for music for over 60 years. He enjoyed spending his time outside doing yard work and planting in his flower garden. Russ will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A public visitation was held Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date. Burial was in Union Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
