Platteville High School's Jesse Martin closed out his prep basketball career at the the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game last Thursday at JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
Martin scored 14 points, which was third on the team, to help the Red All-Stars to a 119–114 win in the Division 3 All-Star Game. Lodi’s Brady Ring and Jack Fritz of Columbus each scored a co-game-high 21 points to help the Red to a 119–114 win over White team in the WBCA Division 3 All-Star game.
Dodgeville’s Dillon Garthwaite, the two-time SWC Player of the Year, scored 10 points in the Red’s win. Garthwaite led the Dodgers (21–4, 10–0) to a second-straight conference title.
The Red team took a 99–83 lead into the final quarter, before the White team put together a strong rally, with 31–20 scoring advantage in the final period. But five different players scored in the final stanza for Red to hold off the rally.
Martin averaged a team-high 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game last season for the Hillmen (14–12, 6–4), who finished second in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference behind Dodgeville, to earn first-team All-SWC honors. The 2021–22 season was a strong bounce back season for Martin, who missed all of his junior year with a torn ACL (suffered during the 2020 football season).
Martin will play NCAA Division III football at UW–Platteville this fall.
