Prairie du Chien wins SWAL–SWC girls golf title

LANCASTER — The Prairie du Chien Girls Golf team traveled to the Lancaster Country Club last Wednesday, September 25, looking to make some noise heading into the postseason and by placing first out of five teams at the SWAL–SWC Conference Tournament with a team score of 374, it’s safe to say they did just that.

The first place finish cemented a conference championship for the Hawks, the program’s sixth overall and first since 2004. Prairie was led by senior Irelynd Cejka who finished one shot behind Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton’s Brooklyn Bussan for medalist honors with a score of 85. Following Cejka was Hannah Fritsche in fourth place with a 93, Elisia Wynos in seventh place with a 96, Camryn Knapp in ninth with a 100 and Tessa Czajkowski Higgins in 14th place with a 103.

Cejka and Wynos (first team) and Fritsche and Knapp (second team) earned all-conference honors with their SWAL-SWC performances during the season.

Prairie du Chien went on to finish second its own nine-team Division 2 regional last Thursday at the Prairie du Chien Country Club as the Hawks qualified for the sectional meet as a team for the first time since 2013. Top three teams at the regional meet qualified for Monday's Division 2 Madison Edgewood sectional meet at The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove. PdC finished eighth at sectionals, as Edgewood (357) and Waukesha Catholic Memorial (377) finished first and second to advance to the WIAA D2 State Meet.
