Seneca girls basketball comes back to defeat Wolves

SENECA - The Seneca grils basketball team came back to beat 47 Wonewoc-Center on Thursday Jan. 2 by the score or 47-36.

Seneca senior guard Makenna Greene scored 28 points, grabbed  5 rebounds and had  five assists  and three steals.  Teammate Savanna Wallin scored 12 points and had four rebounds  and four steals. 

 And the freshmen contributed as well–Taylor Snyder scored four points,  Ella Greene had two points and  Grace Check one point.

Seneca head coach Kim Redman was impressed by her scrappy team’s performance agains the Wolves. 

“We were down 24-26 at half and outscored them 23-10 in the second half,” Redman pointed out later. “As a team, we were also 12 of 16 from the free throw line.”
Riverdale wrestlers pick up two wins

MUSCODA - The wrestling team had one final warm up before the Bi-State Classic, heading to Belmont on Tuesday night. The team picked up two wins defeating Belmont/Platteville 42-33 and Pecatonica Argyle 48-24.

Rylee Wanek started the

Belmont/Platteville dual with a pin at 170 pounds. After a forfeit to Dietrich Buchholz at 182 Kadin Rynes moved up to 195 and won by pin. At 220 pounds Dreyton Deglow competed in a back and forth match and ended up on the losing end 10-7. Riverdale forfeited at heavyweight and had a 18-9 lead moving into 106.

Jordan Bomkamp would put together a great performance. He scored two takedowns and rode his opponent hard on his way to a 4-0 victory. This was a big swing match and Jordan came through when called on. Terry Sage jumped back into the varsity lineup with a fighting performance before falling by pin late in the third period. Brody Miess would follow with a pin at 120 to move to 16-1 on the season.

Carson Knight jumped up a weight class and would fall by pin to a tough Belmont/Platteville wrestler. Sean Duffy picked up a forfeit at 132 and Nick Stitzer would avenge a loss at the Richland Center Invite with a 6-2 win to secure the dual for Riverdale. After two Riverdale forfeits Ashton Miess would collect a big lead before securing the fall at 160 pounds.

In the dual against Pecatonica/ Argyle Nick Stitzer and Sean Duffy would pick up pins on the way to the 48-24 victory. The team is now 8-0 on the season and their next dual will be at home on Thursday, January 12 when they wrestle Boscobel/Wauzeka- Stueben and River Valley.

JH wrestling begins

Riverdale Junior High wrestling will hold their first practice of the season in the RES small gym after school until 5:15 on Tuesday, January 2. This is open to any boys or girls in grade 6-8. This is a great time to try the sport in an environment conducive to learning basic moves and competing against kids of your own ability.
