BOSCOBEL - The Boscobel boys’ basketball team defeated visiting Mineral Point, 63-51, Thursday night, Jan. 28.
Both teams ran into repetitive fouling during the first half, with traded play that kept scoring close with the Bulldogs ending with a single point lead, 29-28.
While both teams were able to reduce the fouling problem in the second half, the Bulldogs were also able to charge their offensive and defensive action.
“We didn’t get a fluid offensive position established in the first half,” described Coach Levi Esters. “The coaching staff was able to communicate this to the team and they were able to perform better and get good possession on the ball during the second half.”
The Pointer defense was unable to respond effectively and the Bulldogs pushed their lead ahead to score 34-23.
As with the recent game Fennimore, scoring was largely inside the two-point zone.
“The boys played what was probably their best game of the season against the Pointers,” said the coach.
Leading in scoring were Dallas Marks with 17 points, followed by Tommy Monroe with 14, and Ryan Latham with 11.
Monroe also earned two of three attempts at the free throw line.
The win leaves the Bulldogs with a 3-6 conference record and 7-6 overall.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to face Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday, Feb. 2. That game was cancelled due to weather and rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6.
Boscobel will host conference rival Riverdale tonight, Thursday, Feb. 4. Varsity play gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
