MUSCODA - The Riverdale Wrestling team made the short trip to Highland Friday night to take on the co-op Iowa Grant/Highland. With many wrestlers out due to injury and sickness, there were seven matches wrestled with Riverdale winning three. Iowa Grant/Highland came out on top 45-15.
The meet started at 160 pounds where Colt Pechan moved up a weight class and pinned right at the end of the first period. At 170 pounds, number two ranked Bradon Roen defeated number five ranked Brady Peat in overtime 5-3. Kenny Elliott fell victim to a first period pin at 182 and Iowa Grant/Highland led 12-3.
After a double forfeit at 195, Terry Hrubes won a hard fought back and forth battle 9-5. Riverdale received a forfeit at 285 and the match was tied 12-12.
The next match took place at 132 where Brian Mathews scored three takedowns, an escape and two point nearfall to win 9-4. Casanova Coy made his Riverdale debut at 138 and fought hard before being pinned in the second period. The last match of the night was an entertaining battle with Tyler Hach falling behind early, but coming back to score a reversal and two third period takedowns before losing 11-9.
“The kids that wrestled competed well tonight,” said Head Coach Jeff Campbell. “We knew going in with four starters out that it was going to be tough to make up the points. We should be back to full strength Friday night when we head to Mineral Point.” ...
